Lady bugs and bowling alley!

I love it when life comes full circle. One of the first cakes tiered cakes I ever created was for a baby shower. I learned so much doing that cake and though in my head it wasn’t perfect the mommy-to-be loved it. That mommy-to-be is now a mommy of a 1 yr old precious girl and asked me to make the first birthday cake for her munchkin! We chatted and decided that the cake would do a 3 tier cake with a ladybug theme. The top tier would be the smash cake and would be in buttercream. The bottom 2 tiers would be light green and red fondant. As we were putting the cake together we decided to add a few personal touches. The first being the gelatin butterflies. Her baby shower cake was garden themed with butterflies so as a surprise I added a few gelatin butterflies to remind her of her awesome baby shower. I also added the bow on the lady bugs head. In looking at the photos of Amberly on facebook, almost every photo the cutie has a bow in her hair.

I delivered the cake to Grandmas house and it matched the decorations perfectly!

I was also given the honor of making a cake for my bestfriends son. He was given a scholarship to Webber International for bowling and was getting ready to head off to college. It also happens to be his 18th birthday. The design we came up with was a bowling alley. The cake and pins are cake covered in fondant. The board started out as just plain brown fondant over a MDF board. Lines and the coloring was hand colored to turn a piece of board into an alley. I am very proud of this cake and also very proud of Colin! Good Luck Colin in wherever your dreams take you!

Original Nintendo cake

I was invited by my friend Maria to a party at her house to celebrate finding her original Nintendo in her moms garage. We discussed making a cake and below is what I came up with. It was chocolate with peanut butter filling and the remotes were rice krispie treats.

Petite and Pink!

We have some awesome friends who decided to get married. We were hoping for a huge wedding to celebrate but they decided to go small and off to the court house they go. In talking with them I learned they were not going to have a wedding cake. That doesn't sound like a proper way to start a life together to this cake decorator!

THEY NEEDED A CAKE! RIGHT?

The bride is simple and elegant. So we decided on a quilted design with edible pearls. I have never done a quilted pattern before but I am up to most challenges. I am very pleased with the way the quilting turned out. I also for the first time used ganache under the fondant to give the cake a smooth finish. It was finished off with some homemade pink gumpaste roses.

Ace of cakes NOT! But I love my cakes

Each time I do a cake someone asks me if I have seen Ace of Cakes. Of course I can, I am however not up to his caliber nor do I want to be. I put my heart and soul into each and every cake I make. I am very proud of them.

It has been a little over a year and I look back on those cakes and see how much I didn't know. I learn so much with each cake I make.

Below are a few of my latest cakes.

Ms. Audrey is engaged.

Our dear friend, real estate agent and wonderful Girl Scout Leader is getting married! Audrey and Derek were thrown a great engagement party, which of course I brought the cake. I tossed around many ideas and found this adorable cake on my favorite website http://www.cakecentral.com/.

Their cake was a ring box covered in black mocha fondant, red gumpaste roses and a huge "diamond ring". They loved the cake as did all the guests. And I had a great time making this cake. Their wedding cake will be a amazing winter wonderland cake.

My Baby is now 16

June 14th my baby turned 16. After the many moods of a teenager he finally decided on a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap. I have never done a baseball cap but I am up to a challenge, and who says no to the birthday wishes of her son. He is also not really a cake fan, doesn't care for the typical cake flavors. He choose key lime cake with lemon butter cream. The cake was covered in fondant and the logo was hand cut. The cake board was made to look like the baseball diamond with hand piped grass, graham cracker "clay" and the bases. I am so proud of this cake, it is now my favorite cake I have made. I am also very proud of my son, Happy Birthday Alex. And Bobbie sorry it wasn't a Rays cap.

I am back.....

We purchased our new home in Feb. and have been so busy with it that I haven't blogged at all! I have been busy with cakes. In April I had 2 orders for tiered cakes for the same day. Once we got the logistics of the delivery scheduled I was ready to bake.

Hubby said he hadn't seen so many baked cakes in the same room. There was a total of 10 cakes sitting on the table. CAKE OF ALL SHAPES, SIZES, COLORS AND FLAVORS.

The first cake was a 2 tier birthday cake for my online friend Lauren. She wanted it simple and pretty with lots of colorful daisies. The cake was white butter cream iced, vanilla cake with raspberry filling!

After Laurens cutie cake I moved onto the 3 tier monster. This cake was awesome to make. Christina is a 16 year old who knows exactly what she wants. She drew the picture of the cake she wanted and we went from there. Her theme was 80's retro, including florescent colors and black lights.

Her flavor choices were vanilla with raspberry, chocolate with peanut butter and chocolate with Oreo filling. She requested mocha fondant. I have never flavored fondant and didn't even want to try that with a cake this size. A quick google search turned up this awesome site..http://www.fondarific.com/products.html. A quick call was placed and all my questions answered. I placed and order for the mocha fondant and 2 days later it was at my door! Now I hate coffee so I wasn't going to taste this fondant but my friends that did taste it LOVED it. The fondant was dyed black with Americolor gel and I was ready to go.

The fondarific covered the cake beautifully and easily. Added all the neon swirls, rope borders and the great candles and the cake was ready to go.

The deliveries took 2 hours as Alex and I circled the bay! Was a great delivery with my 15 yr old carrying the cake to the second floor of the amazing Isla Del Sol country club.

Boba Fett WHO?

I was ask by my friend Liz to make a cake for her husbands 30th birthday. She asked for Boba Fett from Star Wars. Well... I have no clue who that is. Quickly Google became my friend. And afer some research and some photos from Liz we came up with this.

It must have been right one. Aiden, Liz and Chris's 2 year old son, said "Boba Fett Mommy" as soon as he saw it. This cake passed the 2 year old test.

We also threw one heck of a party. This was in celebration of our new home and my wonderful husbands 40th birthday. We had about 50 of our closest family and friends. We had tons of food, drinks and even karaoke. I made his cake and it was a graveyard. Said " Here lies Jeff's youth" it also had gray and black baseball pants, bats and softballs to honor Jeffs first love. I am truely blessed and thankful for the wonderful people in my life!

Aidens farm animal cake!

I had the pleasure of making a cake for my internet friend Liz and her 2 yr old son. Aiden's birthday was at a farm in Bradenton and he loves everything farm animals. I hand made out of fondant/gumpaste a cow, horse, pig and ducks. This cake was a blast to make and even better when I delivered it and Aiden named each animal and then made all the animal noises.

Time to play catch up!

It has been a crazy busy month. Between my birthday, holiday parties and cakes I have been super busy.

My birthday was the 4th. After a great day spent with my mom and best buddy Bobbie, we joined my twin sister for our traditional family dinner. I did not make my own cake, it came from the only place I will eat store bought cakes Publix.

I was also honored to make the 1st birthday cake from Nate's birthday. Nate was born very premature and is doing wonderful. His mom Leanne only asked that the cake be royal blue and green. She mentioned frogs and I ran with it. I have to say this was by far my favorite cake of all time. This was so much fun. Had fondant frog, Lilly pad and rocks. Everyone wanted to celebrate the miracle of Nate so the guest list keep growing. We added cupcakes at the last moment and I made mini Lilly pads.

I was also asked by very good friends Jimmy and Nichole to make a 2nd birthday cake for their son Dillon. He wanted a safari theme. I made out of fondant a lion, giraffe, elephant, zebra, monkey and hippo. I love making kids cakes, they are so much fun!

The holidays baking kept me very busy. I am known at work as the baker so it seemed fitting that I make something for my co-workers. My online friend Shawna gave me a recipe for pumpkin chocolate chip bread. I found these cute little ceramic loaf pans at Michael's and the mini ornaments at Joanne's. I made 22 batches of these and I figured the total cost was less that $2.00 each. My co-workers loved and enjoyed them.
I was asked by Ruby to make her a cake for her annual Christmas get-together. She asked for red velvet with cream cheese icing. I made her cake in the shape of a gift and added the bow and tag. She sent me a message and said she loved it.
And finally, my darling sister asked for a cake for the centerpiece of the dinning table. I found the cutest candle cake on cakecentral.com. This cake was white almond sour cream (my favorite) and I added peppermint schnapps as the liquid in the icing and crushed up candy canes in between the layers. It was delish!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas ( I did) and an even more amazing 2010.
I want to thanks my amazing husband Jeff, without his support and muscular hands (for mixing fondant) I would not be able to pursue my passion. My kids Elizabeth ( my #1 fan), Alex, my stepdaughters Ashley and Amber for being such great kids. I am truly blessed everyday by the amazing support system I have around me. I LOVE YOU ALL!

The high heels, lipstick, pearls and cell phone are homemade marshmellow fondant. I am very happy with how this one turned out and best of all my daughter loved it.

Also this weekend I made a cake for my co-worker Tina. It was her 50th birthday. I often joke with her and call her the cat lady, she has never meet a stray she doesn't take in so I made her a cat cake. She loved it and I really enjoyed this one. Bored on a Tuesday night!!

Sitting at home with nothing to do so I decided to play with cakes. I was going to make a cake for a bridal shower on Sunday but the plans for the party changed. I found a design in red, white and black that I loved that I planned on making. I decided to give it a try. If I was to make this cake for a customer I would of made the ribbon wavy instead of straight I think it adds an additional femine touch.

The leaves, ribbon and roses are all fondant.

Chinese cake...

I was asked by my cousin-in-law to make a free cakes for kids cake. This was for her sister who was recently laid off, her husband is also out of work and she was worried their son wouldnt have a cake. It was an honor to make this cake.

She told me his room is all in chinese themed and I decided to make a cake with that theme. The chinese symbols are make of royal icing and are therefore very fragile. I broke more than one it was the challenge of this cake. The wording on the top is Happy Birthday Tyler and then around the cake are the words strength, love, heart and peace.

It is chocolate with peanut butter filling, when calling his mother to ask about the filling, she informed me that he does not like chocolate cake.... UMMM when the cake was ordered by his Aunt she said chocolate... well chocolate is what he is getting but I will stop and get a vanilla cuppie for the birthday boy!!

Halloween is comin!!

Halloween is just around the corner. I had a request to make a cake for my co-workers birthday last week. She loves Halloween and every year dresses up at the office as a witch, so I had to incorporate that somehow. Her cake was almond sour cream with chocolate buttercream filling and almond buttercream icing. She loved her cake as did my other co-workers. It was my first attempt at a spiderweb and I am really proud of how it turned out. All halloween goodies are fondant.
